I can’t believe it’s week 5 of the One Room Challenge already! Nothing will make a month go by faster than to throw in a room renovation, ha! This post may seem like a boring one when compared to other ORC updates, but it was a huge step in getting this room completed on time. It took every bit of Friday evening, until 1 a.m. to be exact and most of Sunday afternoon and evening to finish. It’s one of my favorite things in our home and today I’m sharing it… the floor in the laundry room is installed and I’m one happy gal!
I’ll admit, it looks a little rough with just the baseboard and just primed, at that. Not to mention the sink, toilet and cabinet doors have not been installed yet but I can see my vision for the space unfolding.
We had the easiest time laying this tile. Yes, I said tile! It’s a porcelain tile that looks just like brick. It even has the same texture and feel as brick. After searching high and low for an affordable brick I decided to stick with herringbone hardwood floors. Shortly after the hardwoods we had decided on became unavailable. I was back at the drawing board. A couple of days later the most amazing thing happened. I came across this amazingness at Home Depot of all places. How did I miss it? What’s even more amazing is that it only runs around $4 a sq. foot. Compare that to real brick… we saved a fortune! Some days I have a had time remembering it’s not real brick.
I thought you might like a good shoe pick 😉
I’ll share more about that flooring another time. I’m going to give myself some time to live with it and then fill you in.
I’m also thrilled to be working with House of Antique Hardware on all of our cabinet hardware, outlet covers and these amazing mother-of-pearl push button light switches. They make it so easy to bring true vintage touches into a space. I would have never imagined myself getting so giddy over light switches.
The brass outlet covers are just as gorgeous! Little touches like these can really stand out in a space once it’s all complete.
It may not seem like much but the flooring was a game changer and I also finished up a lot of my shopping for all those little touches. It doesn’t show in an update post but those shopping trips can be quite time consuming. It is a lot of fun shopping for the perfect things to bring the room alive.
Here’s a list of what’s happening this weekend:
- The toilet and sink are getting installed today and the washer and dryer will then be moved back in.
- Once the cabinet hardware arrives, the doors will be put in place.
- Install the two light fixtures.
- Complete the secret washer and dryer wall. ( Can’t wait to see how that turns out!)
- Bring in all the decor!
To say I’m looking forward to next week’s reveal would be an understatement. To see the before and after side by side is going to make my year. I look forward to seeing you back here next Thursday, friends! Have a great day and check my Instagram stories this weekend to see how we’re progressing in this space.

I would love to put it in our foyer, eventually. We’ve got a lot to thing weekend, but I’m really looking forward to actually sharing a finished room! Have a great weekend, Lanita. 🙂
Oh my that floor is amazing! I love when Plan B is even better than Plan A. Looking forward to seeing your reveal next week.
Amanda, I can’t even tell you how much I love those floors! So unique, I can’t believe they’re tile!
Isn’t it shocking, Roxanne? I couldn’t believe it was tile at first either. It’s really a great product. I can not wait to share the finished room!
WOW!!! Those floors are incredible!!!! Cannot wait to see this space come together!
Thanks Kristi! I’m completely in love! You really can’t tell it’s not real brick, even in person.
