Christmas is just a few days away and I’ve been so anxious to share the space with you all. While this is the last room of our home tour, this was actually the first room we decorated for Christmas. This is Audrey and Charlie’s playroom, and also doubles as a family movie room. This room is located in our basement and was already finished when we purchased our house. Unfortunately, this room doesn’t have any windows like other parts of our basement, so there isn’t any natural light. It made taking photos a bit tricky, so bear with me!

Shortly after we moved in I painted the brown paneling and trim. I wanted a fun, colorful room for this kids to hang out in. The walls are Teresa Green by Farrow & Ball and the trim and doors are painted in Oval Room by Farrow & Ball. We added several wooden cabinets for storage under the T.V. Just like the cabinets in our previous butler’s pantry, they’re Home Depot’s unfinished upper wall cabinets on a 2×4″ base. Audrey hasn’t seemed to notice that they open yet, so I haven’t added the knobs. I may leave them off for as long as I can.

All of the furniture and decor are second-hand and or was once used in other parts of our home. I did not want to purchase anything new for this space. Our kids really don’t care. They’re just happy to have a big room for toys and a place to hang out with friends.
The tree that we used in this room is my all time favorite tree! It was once Charlie’s tree. It’s filled with non breakable ornaments and paper chain that we made this year. The Merry Christmas banners were purchased 10 years ago from Hobby Lobby and I made the drum tree collar. It’s a bit small for this particular tree. The tree that it was originally made fo was a bit smaller. However, you can find my tutorial for the collar here.

I tried to keep the holiday decor kid friendly, nothing breakable. Audrey’s alphabet cards were pinned to a strand of garland for a touch or fun and a little pop of color.

Most of the toys are tucked away in the back of the room. Charlie’s kitchen set that we built is still going strong and the table and chairs from Audrey’s nursery at our previous home have been moved to this room. The bookshelf is painted in Hay by Farrow & Ball. This bookshelf was actually left at our previous house when we purchased it. Only in the last couple of months have I refinished it. I love the color we chose and it holds books and toys perfectly.

Most all of the artwork was purchased from Etsy and printed at our local Staples store. The wooden frames were all purchased over time from Homegoods and the Pottery Barn outlet. I will link each one at the bottom of the post.

The warm glow of the Christmas tree has only added to the whimsical nature of this space. I wanted this room to be a subtle nod to classic English children’s books – Winnie the Pooh, Paddington Bear, etc. and avoiding trends characters. While it’s not quite perfect, it turned out just as I had hoped.
Kid’s spaces continue to be my favorite rooms to decorate. They’re all about fun! This space has turned out to be one of our favorite places to be as a family. It has stayed surprisingly warm these past cold weeks, so it’s been perfect for family movie nights. As Charlie and Audrey grow, I hope it’s a room that grows with them. I look forward to seeing it morph and change as the years go on. That’s what decorating a home is all about after all!
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Looks so wonderful! I just love everything you do!
Tis amazing how paint can change a piece of furniture or even a room! When living in our prior home the dark paneling was painted a soft beige and wow what a difference this made! This basement area has been given a new life for sure and what fun for the family!!
What a fun, cozy, casual, space! I think the drum tree collar looks great with that tree, what a clever idea. Kids don’t care about perfection, and I’m sure it will be a source of lots of good memories for them as the grow up, Merry Christmas to you and your family!🎄
Amanda this room is absolutely enchanting and that tree. Simple beauty, so playful yet stunning. Great job!
Looks so great! Very lucky children to have their own playroom. You do such a beautiful job in decorating your home.
Have you have wonderful Christmas enjoying your children.
What a fun and relaxing room!!!
I love your creative style. One thing which caught my attention was the table and chairs. My daughter ( now a grandmother) had a similar table and wicker chairs, which we bought while living in Germany. Much later, we moved to Georgia. I think we sold the set in a yard sale. There was a Queen of Hearts near where we lived at the time. If those chairs are the same and held up this long they are very well made! Thanks for your talents! Merry Christmas!
Those are the cutest alphabet cards! Did you make them or purchase them? If you bought them will you let me know from where? Thanks so much and love your content! Blessings!
