One of my favorite things about this current season is all of the gorgeous flowers. Summer has endless blooms of all different sizes and colors. The flower that I absolutely adore the most is the Peony. It blooms for such a short time but makes up for it with it’s size and fragrance. At our last house I planted a peony bush and I haven’t gotten around to planting any in our new home just yet, but it will happen eventually. You can imagine how excited I was to walk into our local Trader Joe’s and find buckets full of these beauties! Of course I had to come home with several bundles.
I don’t do a lot of “decorating” in the summer. It’s such a laid back season and I like a clean, bright and simple space. I shared our effortless summer entry way last week and you can see that here. I usually keep the mantel very simple through the summer months. One way to do this is to use fresh flowers. What I love about incorporating flowers into decor is that you don’t need a lot of other things along with them. They’re beautiful all on their own.
I collect vintage milk glass and I knew the vibrant colors would look beautiful in several of my goblets and vases.
I added several old books that I had on hand to add some height and dimension. That’s it friends! It’s beyond easy to throw together. You could use whatever flowers you’d like. Our hydrangea bushes are blooming currently and they would look just as beautiful. I’ll have to bring some of those in once my peonies kick the bucket.
Our family room has never smelled so sweet!
I hope you all have been having a wonderful spring and I wish you a fun and wonderful summer. Hopefully I’ve inspired you to bring some fresh summer flowers indoors to enjoy!
Now it’s time to hop over to Making Home Base. Chelsea has the most beautiful mantel for you guys! I’m so glad you stopped by to see another touch of summer in our home. Have a great week friends!

Thank you so much, Jennifer! When we bought our house the mantel was white but I think the dark color just adds a little drama. 🙂

Thank you, Krista! I really can’t get enough of the peony season. I just wish it was a little longer. Thanks for stopping by friend!

Thank your so much, Marie! If only the peony season was longer. They’re one of my favorites too!
I love your black mantle! The peonies and milk glass are the perfect addition! Beautiful!
Thank you so much, Amy! The mantel was white when we moved in but I love the drama the dark color adds. Thank you so much for stopping by. 🙂
The soft pinks are so pretty against the white milk glass. I like how you used vintage books to vary heights.
