Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
Using a mixer, beat the butter and brown sugar. Add the egg and mix until combined.
Add the molasses and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
Slowly mix in the flour mixture. Mix until combined. Dump out the dough on the counter and form a loaf shape. Wrap in plastic wrap and let sit out at room temperate for 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll dough about 1/4" thick on a floured surface.
Cut out cookies and place on a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Bake for 7-10 minutes or until crisp.
Place on a cooling rack. Once cooled, decorate desired icing.
