While so many are dreaming of freshly painted cabinets and an all white kitchen, stained cabinets everywhere are screaming, “look at me!” I see you stained cabinets and I must say, I’m crushing hard. Don’t get me wrong, I love painted cabinets. One of the first things we did in our home before we moved in was to paint the cabinets. I wrote all about it in my previous post, 5 easy updates when you can’t afford to renovate but not all stained kitchen cabinets are equal. Some don’t ever need to see a drop of paint!
With that said, I’m dying to show you what I’ve found over the last few months cruising through Pinterest. These stained kitchen cabinets are guaranteed to inspire and are just another reason you should never chase trends. When you’ve got something classic that you love, stick with it! So, let’s take a little look at a few of my favorite kitchens that are sporting that pretty wood grain!
15 Stunning Kitchens with Stained Cabinets
I’m pretty sure my kitchen needs a ladder just like this one. My short girl problems would be over!

I don’t know what I love more, the cabinets or that French range. Sadly, I couldn’t find a source for this kitchen. If you know please share!

I love that they incorporated a painted island into the space. The contrast between the stained cabinets and the white paint is just perfect.
I had to throw this one in. It’s not a kitchen but this mudroom had me at first site! This stained bench and side cabinets are just beautiful with its soft rustic color.
I don’t know about you, but I’m completely inspired. I’ve never been one to paint every piece of wood furniture. I think it really depends on the piece. Just like furniture I can say the same about cabinets. These cabinets just go to show how beautiful that natural look can be. A lot of it can depend of the choice of back splash and counter tops. There needs to be a break in the rich wood to bring balance but I see a lot of kitchens drifting back to stained cabinets in the future. What’s your thoughts? Would you opt for stained cabinets over painted ones?

Thank you for posting this. I thought I was the only one that still loves the classic beauty of stained wood. I chose wood stained cabinets when we built our custom home 20 years ago. I have never tired of their beauty and warmth. I love pained cabinets too, but would never have the heart to paint my furniture grade cabinets. Timeless.

They really are timeless, Sherry! It’s so good that you went with your gut. You know you chose well when 20 years later you’re still in love with them. They sound beautiful!
Thank you so much for including our kitchen in your round up!
Of course! It’s absolutely beautiful, Summer!
I have really nice orange maple cabinets.
However, I am just over the orange.
Would love to figure another way to stain them. I don’t think I could handle darker as I had that in my old house and I like light, airy spaces. Suggestions?
I have seen several posts on Pinterest for staining cabinets using Briwax – I have not done it myself yet but am seriously considering it over painting my 90s honey oak!
We are building , using oak to stain our cabinets. I’ve chosen special walnut in minwax. I don’t want red or yellow stain. What do you think os special walnut? Do you have any other suggestion? I’m using greige colors in the house and brown and greige vinyl on the floors. Thanks for any ideas.
I have 27 year old oak cabinets stained with special walnut. I really love them, Recently I stained them again and put a satin lacquer finish on them, they look beautiful and modern. I have silestone Blanco Orion Quartz countertops, with a small white subway tile and warm grey grout. I wish I could send you a photo of the update.
I would love to see a photo of the update, too!
Hello, I saw a post suggesting to use neutral paint with purple undertone. This will minimize the yellow color. You do not need to touch the cabinets, just paint walls. Good luck!
I actually saved the article that the unidentified kitchen is in. It was quite some time ago. I THINK it was from either a Colonial Homes magazine or a Traditional Homes magazine. It’s from a home in Canada (British Columbia I think), and the whole kitchen was fantastic. Real limestone floors, real stone walls, built-in floor to ceiling cabinet covering one wall, and that incredible French range….La Cornue? I still have the article, but it’s in storage as we are building our 3rd house. A nice reminder!!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVEN stained cabinets! They add a warmth and beauty that no paint can match. No worry about chipping, either! I have never been one to follow trends. I say go with what you love and makes you feel good. My caramel-stained oak custom cabinets are 16 years old, and I still love them,
