One place that can easy be neglected in our home is the hallway. Its just a narrow passage that takes us to the next room. However, it doesn’t have to be drab and boring. Bead board is an easy and inexpensive way to add charm and character to your space.
My mom’s hallway had been forgotten about in her little house. It seemed like each room had it’s decorative touch except the hall. Here is a photo of her hallway before J and I got to work!
The walls had not been painted in at least eight or nine years. The walls of the long hallway were bare and it looked just plain dingy!
We ran the bead board 4 feet up the wall and topped with 4 inch trim. Home Depot will cut your sheets of board for you. We cut ours at home with a table saw. You will also need a nail gun, brad nails, jigsaw, glue, wood filler, and white caulk. Once the bead board was installed and the trim was put back in place, it was time to pick out a new paint color! I chose a color called Pensive Sky by Behr.
Pay no attention to that ugly vent on the wall. I’m working on some creative ways to “hide” them.
I just love these wooden knobs for hanging decor or picture frames. I recently found these at Home Depot for just under $4 each, such a steal!
My mom is still working on filling her frames.
I have to brag on my hubby for a second. He did such a great job cutting the bead board to fit around each step. He’s amazing!
J also made the new hand rail. It has yet to be stained. We’re trying to decide if we want it the same color as the floors or something completely different. We’ll see!
The rustic frames go great with the crispness of the white bead board and the green wreaths add some texture to the space.
The hallway is now a bright and clean space! It’s not the neglected space it once was. It now fits with the rest of the home and serves it purpose more beautifully!

Not kidding…my hallway looks the exact same…the old one not the new! I’m feeling inspired to spruce it up now. BTW – Just found you and adore your site.
