Is it really November? Seriously, where did October go? I guess it’s natural that my favorite time of the year would fly by. I’ve noticed that one of the best things about fall weather as a DIYer is that I can get outside and work on projects. It’s much better than being cooped up in the garage. My latest furniture build is this antique inspired hutch for our dining room. It’s by far one of my favorite furniture pieces in our home.
A few months ago when I was at antique mart I saw the most beautiful hutch. The natural patina was gorgeous and it had all the simple lines that I love. The one thing I didn’t love was the price tag. At $1500 it was a no go. I left a little sad that day but the more I thought about that hutch over the next few weeks I realized there wasn’t anything stopping me from building my own. Now mine doesn’t have that natural antique patina but I think the crisp, clean white paint color really highlights the items on display.
I haven’t done a build without J in a while. I was a little intimidated to try something this large on my own but knew I had to try. Amazingly enough, I pulled it off! You can find my full building plans on Build Something. There you’ll find the plans as well as the links to the tools that I used to build it. Here’s how it turned out-
I love the new storage we’ve added to the dining room. I had the paint and 1×2″s on hand but it only cost me about $150. So much less than my inspiration hutch from the market. I went with shaker style doors but you could make the doors any style to fit your space. It’s a furniture piece I’m going to be loving for years to come. Hop on over Build Something and check out some other great building plans.
Have a wonderful first day of November friends! P.s. we started a project in our house for something I have dreamed about since I was a little girl, two words – window seat! I’ll be sharing soon.

Wow! This is great! I’m starting to think I want to build my own furniture when I can’t find exactly what I want, and this is really inspiring.
Thank you so much Norma! That’s one of the reasons why I started building my own as well, along with not wanting to exhaust our budget. It’s also a fun hobby. You should go for it!
Beautiful! You did a great job! The door hardware is fantastic, I clicked the link to see where you got them but it didn’t go through.
Thank you so much Tonya! The hardware is from Home Depot. I actually found them in the gate/fencing hardware section.
Awesome! I am going to use your plans on Build something to make this and I want that hardware. 🙂
Hi! I LOVE this! What are the dimensions?
