These adorable children’s Thanksgiving Mayflowers will have you wishing you could sit at the kids table this year! They’re simple to make and are super easy on the budget, perfect for any Thanksgiving table.
Much even more fun than setting a Thanksgiving table? Setting a children’s Thanksgiving table! I’ve shared several holiday tablescapes for Charlie’s little table over the years. I have had so much joy creating those tablescapes that I wanted to be sure to include one for Thanksgiving this year. After all, Charlie won’t be little for long. With an almost 7 year old in the house our little table settings will sadly be coming to an end soon. Until then I’ll be soaking up every minute of sweet holiday table ideas!
Today I’m joining a few talented friends to bring you some quick Thanksgiving tablescapes. I thought this would be the perfect time to share Charlie’s table with you and to show you just how to make these felt Mayflower boats on your own. A couple years ago I saw similar felt boats in a Pottery Barn Kid’s catalog and this year I decided to create my own but for a much smaller price tag. I don’t know about you but I these adorable boats have me wishing I was able to sit at the kids table!
This table uses just a few simple elements that really create a fun place for your little ones this Thanksgiving. I used paper from a paper roll that I purchased at Ikea for around $5 for the runner. Each place setting has its own colored pencils so that they can write and draw until their hearts content. I used basic construction paper cut into leaf shapes as a place holder for each child. Add some cute little boo pumpkins and a wheat sheaf and you’re good to go!
These adorable Mayflowers serve as a fun take home gift and treat basket! We filled ours with candy corn but if candy corn isn’t your thing any kind of festive candy or treats will work.
Here’s what you need –
- 3 large sheets of thick dark brown felt – makes 4 boats.
- Wooden skewers
- 2 sheets of white felt (you can also use plain card stock.)
- hot glue
- 4 small styrofoam pieces for the sail weight.
I measured and cut my boats to be 4 1/2 inches tall on one side and 5 inches tall on the other. The bottom measured 6 inches long and I rounded off the sides. The sails measure 6 inches tall by 5 inches wide.
Using a hot glue gun glue the two pieces together only across the bottom.
Once the glue has dried turn the two pieces inside out. This is going to create a bottom that will allow the boat to stand up.
Pressing the sides together flat, glue the two pieces together.
Create a small slit an inch up from the bottom and an inch from the top in your white felt to slide the wooden skewer through to create a sail.
I used small pieces of styrofoam to hold each sail up right and then loaded each boat with candy corn.
Place each Mayflower in the center of the plate and your table is complete!
These little Mayflowers are such a sweet surprise and are very easy on the budget. You may just have everything you need to make them on hand already! No matter how you decide to set your Thanksgiving table this year I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving!
