This post is in partnership with Cost Plus World Market but as always all thoughts are my own.
Have you started thinking about your holiday decorations yet? I’ve been slowly moving out the pumpkins and making room for all of the pretty Christmas decor. As I was going through my decor this past week and really letting the spirit of the holidays sink in it got me thinking about those who are unable to decorate. Whether it’s from illness, lack of finances or due to physical limitations, my heart sank. I know that the Christmas season is not about the lights and the ornaments but what joy and magic it brings to this time of year. My mind jumped right to my grandparents. My grandfather has been sick and was recently released from the hospital. My grandmother is his caregiver and hardly has time or money to really spend decorating. They spent 15 years in Mexico as missionaries and sold most of their belongings before they left. They haven’t replaced much of their Christmas decor since they’ve been back home. I thought what if I took the time to take them a tree, some simple and timeless Christmas decor and decorate for them? With just a few ornaments, a topper, wreath and some homemade cookies, of course, their little family room would be a constant reminder to them this season that they are loved and not looked over.

When I started thinking about a tree from my grandparents I knew that I wanted it to be timeless and classic, something that would make them remember Christmas’ past. I popped over to my Cost Plus World Market in Kennesaw. You can find your local store here. There’s just something about shopping at your local store when finding gifts for your loved ones that makes it more special. Whether you’re shopping for a gift for a spouse, a gift for a child or even a gift for a co-worker, they have something for everyone. I knew I would find some simple yet classic ornaments and decor for my grandparents and I did!

I chose natural greenery, golds, and silvers because they’ll work beautifully with other colors that my grandparents may have already. I made sure to pick very traditional ornaments that would be in line with my grandma’s taste and style.
Don’t forget the little extras for the tree!
It’s not just about taking my grandparent’s something, although that’s completely fine, it’s also about spending time together. Bringing some easy cookie mix along to make while we’re there is a must. Not only do we get to decorate but we just to enjoy some holiday cookies too!
I crave that time with loved ones this time of year and making sure that they have joy this season is so important. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, just a something from your heart that shows them they’re in your thoughts.
I don’t know about you but I’m ready to get decorating! I’ve had Ella Fitzgerald holiday channel on Pandora all week while unwrapping ornament after ornament. This time of year just makes my heart and soul so happy. Just sitting down in the evenings with a cozy blanket and the twinkling lights of the tree make the cares of the day wash away. Are you looking forward to the holiday season? I’d love to know how you celebrate and if you do anything special for loved ones. I love learning new ways to spread the joy. Have a wonderful week friend!

Thank you for the reminder that the holidays aren’t always ‘happy’ for everyone. It’s the prefect time to be Christ’s hands, feet, and mouth to those around us. I love all the nostalgia and closeness this time of year brings, why not share it with others? I would love to hear some of your grandparent’s stories from their time ministering. What a legacy to pass on.
(I also LOVE Ella, she’s been playing at our house too!)

Thank you so much, Sharon! They’re such a wonderful, loving couple. Sometimes it’s easy to forget about those who can’t do for themselves when life gets busy. We really try to slow down a bit in our house this time of the year and really soak everything in. There’s so much to be thankful for and family is the first! Have a lovely weekend 🙂
