It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge and our laundry/powder room is coming right along. These last two weeks are going to be the busiest! The new electrical has been run and the planked ceiling went in yesterday. Next is the new lighting!
I wanted to talk about what’s happening on the wall of the washer and dryer this weekend. I wanted to create plenty of storage. This room has always held our mops and brooms as well as extra toiletries and household cleaners. This room also serves as our powder room so I want to make sure those items are out of sight. We’re going to install a floor to ceiling shaker style cabinet beside the washer and dryer. The cabinet will have double doors and plenty of upper shelf space for all those small cleaning items.
Attached to the cabinet will run two floating shelves that hang above the washer and dryer. I’m really excited about those shelves because they’ll house not only our detergent jars but also some framed photos and greenery.
I have something I’m really excited about for the washer and dryer but I think I’m going to keep it to myself for now… I hate to do that but it makes the final reveal that much more fun!
The wall behind the washer and dryer is getting a fun wall treatment tomorrow. I’ll share more on that next week. The color I’ve chosen for the cabinetry is called Cape May Cobblestone by Benjamin Moore. It’s a soothing neutral that has a very traditional feel.
Flooring update- We’ve had a set back with the flooring. These things always seem to happen when there’s a deadline. The flooring that I had chosen is currently unavailable so I’ve got the task of picking a new floor by the end of the week so that it can be installed next weekend. The flooring will be one of the last things to go into the space. Once that’s done the sink can be installed and all the finishing touches can be put in place.
Here’s a sneak peek of the planked ceiling that went in yesterday. It’s getting trim and paint today. Goodbye textured ceiling and hello planked goodness!
I’m so very excited to wrap up this space. We’ve been living in a construction zone for weeks now and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
We have a two very busy weeks ahead of us and I’m so glad you’re taking the trip with me. Have a great week friends!

My family room is painted Cape May Cobblestone, and I love it, but almost never hear it mentioned. I love how it is a warm grey, not too dark, not too light

I had never heard of it before until recently when I was flipping through my BM paint fan book and came across it. I was thinking, why have I not heard of this color before? I googled it and it really is the most beautiful color. I’m sure your family room is gorgeous! I’m dying to get my cabinet painted.
Love the color of the cabinet!
Thanks, Chaney! 🙂
Love your mood board. The planked ceiling looks awesome!
Thank you so much, Jen! It’s a huge improvement over the previous textured one!
Yay, can’t wait to see more! Love the color you picked for the cabinets.
Thanks, Deb! I loved that color too. I hate that it looked purple in my lighting. I’m hoping to use that color some place else in my house. I do adore the new color though!
Love the design board. I think this is going to look beautiful and also fits the style if the house. I also checked out your home tour. I love what you’ve done to the house and the best part is it looks like that’s how it was or always should have been. You really have a great design aesthetic.
Thank you so much, Sue! You’ve made my day with your thoughtful comment. I really have way too much fun with those design boards. It will be interesting to see how the space looks in the end. I never thought I’s say this, but I’m really ready to get some laundry done in my new space!
