Did you know we have a powder room? I bet you didn’t and for a good reason. I never share the space here, on Instagram or Facebook. Looking at the photo below you can see why I never share the space. To be honest, the room doesn’t look much different today than it did the first day we walked into the house with the exception of dog poo on the floor and curtains on the wall.
We’ve been working around this space only because we’ve been planning on moving the powder room out and to a different part of the house. Right now it shares this room with the laundry closet. You can’t really see the laundry nook in this photo but it’s tucked into the right corner. I never liked the two sharing the same space. We ran into a couple snags after Christmas when we had planned to move the powder room.
For now the powder room is going to remain in this room and we’re planning an affordable makeover because I can’t take looking at this hideous space one more day!
Here’s the plan-
We’ve already removed the laminate flooring and sanded the sub-floor. I have a really fun painting plan in mind. That’s a post for another day.
All of the trim has been painted a fresh coat of white.
I took advantage of having the flooring removed to use my Home Right paint sprayer to paint all the trim. It was so much faster than using the old paint brush and it left a smooth, crisp finish.
The cabinet will stay for now. It’s been sanded and is awaiting fresh paint.
The counter top and sink will be replaced with a similar butch block top that we used in our kitchen renovation.
The builder grade mirror has been removed and the light fixture will also be replaced.
The walls were just painted yesterday and I thought about sharing but I think I’m going to let that be a surprise for next time. We were unable to remove the wallpaper due to the fact that it was pulling the sheet rock off with it. We mudded the seams and painted over it. We’ve had to do this before in a previous house in a master bathroom and it worked like a charm. I say remove wallpaper whenever possible before you paint. Here’s the color I chose –
It’s Soft Chamois by Benjamin Moore in an eggshell finish. It’s an off-white with such a warmth. I chose it because of the warmer tone that it keeps throughout the day and evening. The powder room faces the south so it gets full-sun all day. I was a little worried the color would be a little darker than I wanted in the evenings but I was wrong. It’s warm without being too beige. I couldn’t be more thrilled with it.
I’ve decided to go with gold accents. It’s something I really thought about and I’ve weighed my options and honestly, I love the look! It’s become trendy again but I actually think it’s pretty timeless and love the clean and fresh feel it adds to a space. It’s going to be perfect in our colonial powder room.
I can’t wait to share the process along the way with you all. It’s amazing how much cleaner and brighter the room looks with just some fresh paint!
I’ll have more to share with you next week. I hope you’ll stay tuned.
Have a great week friends!

I thought about committing to the gold in my kitchen but didn’t pull the trigger. I just had to in the powder room. It has such a classy look. Thanks Kristi!
