It’s only been raining for what seems like the last year here in Georgia. It’s hard to think that summer is right around the corner when you look out your windows and see gray skies. I’m hoping that by sprucing up our family room a bit that it’ll convince the sun to come out. When my friend Jennifer from Town and Country Living asked me to join her for a color home tour I was really excited. I honestly hadn’t thought too much about the colors I typically use in the summer months but while I was in my linen closet and I was pulling down pillow covers I realized that they were all mostly blue and white. (You can see a few of my favorite blue and white pillows for summer here.) I love blue but I don’t find myself using it year-round. There’s just something about it in the warm summer months that reminds me of beach days. I find it not only to be a pretty color in our summer family room but also very relaxing. My mind instantly jumps to past summer vacations by the sea.
I’ll honest with you all. I’ve been super lazy the last month when it comes to decorating. Maybe it’s the heat and humidity setting in but I have just haven’t been feeling it lately. Swapping out a few pillow covers and throw blankets is all I could manage this month. I’m sure after a few lazy weeks I be itching to start a project and move some furniture around, but until then we’re going for laid back and relaxing!

Did I mention we painted our family room last month? You may have seen our previous post about selecting the right white paint color for the room, but if you didn’t we decided on Simply White from Benjamin Moore. It’s one of my favorite paint colors. We’ve used it in our guest bedroom and in my office. The previous paint color was Halo by Benjamin Moore. I really liked it but after two and a half years the walls started to get worn looking and with our wooded back yard it gave a greenish tent to the walls on rainy days. The new color is fresh yet warm.
We always have some of our favorite shells from past beach trips displayed but in the summer months I like to move those things where they can be seen and enjoyed.
Summer is the time my little family stays up a little later, has movie nights and we take it easy little more often. I made sure to keep the room relaxing and I went light on the decorating. Do you enjoy decorating this time of the year or do you keep things simple? Id you decorate, what’s your favorite color to use in your home during the summer months?
Make sure to take a look at the next blog on the tour! Some of my favorite blogging gals are sharing their summer spaces using their favorite summer colors!

I recently picked up the same polka dot and striped covers from Ikea…I think they’re a great deal and fun for the summer.

So pretty, Amanda! Sometimes the smallest of changes (pillows on the couch) can make a big difference. I still love your gray mantel and it looks great with the new wall color! I wish I’d kept the seashells from our past vacations but I let go of them several years ago. Yours are lovely! Thanks for joining the tour this week!

Hi Helen! They’re both slip-covered and they’re both from the Ektorp line at Ikea. We’ve had them for not quite 4 years and really love them. They’re held up great to little ones and the washable slip covers are a life saver. I hope that helps! 🙂
