Well everyone It’s been a crazy summer around here. We’ve been much busier than I’d prefer. I am however, very pleased that one very large to-do did get crossed off our list. We painted the entire down stairs of my mother’s home. That project was a pretty large undertaking. I don’t remember painting being that exhausting! Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten older and the space was just too big. My mom thought we should have just hired someone to paint… next time I’ll listen to her. None the less it got done in just a couple of days and the color is gorgeous!
What I’m the most excited about is the simple, last-minute touch I decided to add to the entry way. I recently painted the front door Mopboard Black by Benjamin Moore back in the spring but I had been wanting to add a little something more.
Here’s the before:
Here’s the after:
I think adding a little board and batten really dressed up the space and added some interest to what can be one of the most boring spaces in our homes. The wall color really changed the feel of the space. Goodbye 90’s beige and welcome lovely shade of grey. The wall color is Moonshine by Benjamin Moore. For the board and batten I used lattice for the vertical pieces, a 1×4 across the top and a 1×3 to run across the top as a ledge. It runs just over 4′ tall. I chose to use lattice because a. it’s cheap and b. because it’s thin and does not stick out too much in the tight space. We made our cuts, nailed it into place and painted it white to match the rest of the trim.
I have wanted to make one of these signs for some time now. Every time I would see one similar in someone else’s home, It always served as a reminder that I need to start my own. Well, I finally got it finished. It took longer than I liked… patients is not my virtue. The wall needed something and I think it fits the space perfectly!
This & pillow cover is a Pottery Barn knock-off that I can’t wait to share with you all later this month. Stay tuned!
This shows a small, inexpensive change can make a big difference in a space. It takes time to get your home just the way you like it. I feel like my home and mom’s home are always changing for the better. Styling your home should always be a marathon, not a sprint! Check out this previous post for some of my designing over time tips. If you have any spaces in your home that you just love, what are they and why? I love hearing from you all 🙂
I hope you all have a great rest of your week!

Thank you so much Rebekah! It’s really simple. I’ve done it several times… this time it took me just a couple hours 🙂
I love your entryway makeover, Amanda! The door color looks amazing, and the board and batten adds so much texture to the space! Perfection!
Thank so much!! I’m in love with the board and batten. It makes such a huge difference, talk about cheap upgrades!
LOVE how this turned out Amanda! The board & batten really brightens up the walls and that I’m totally crushing on that bench! SO pretty!!!
Thanks Kristi! That bench was a good will find a couple years ago that I just slapped some chalk paint onto. It moves around my house fairly often but I really love having it in the entry way 🙂
Hi there – found your post on the friday pretty pintastic link party. I’m in LOVE with your entry way and that sign – I need that sign. Such a great spot for such a great verse. Nice work!
I’m so glad you found my little corner of blogging Chrissa! Thank you so much for the sweet words. I have wanted a sign like this for years. I finally got my lazy self up a couple weeks ago and made it. That wall needed a little something something!
It looks great! I love the board and batten! I’ve been thinking I should add that somewhere in my home to add a little extra character! Where did you get the coat wall hanger? I love it!!
Thank you so much Ruthie 🙂 It really is such an easy and cheap way to add character. I’m so happy I did it. The coat hanger is from pottery barn outlet. I believe it was only a whopping $10 in the clearance section!! Crazy good deal!
Beautiful Amanda, I love it all!
Thanks girl!
This is beautiful Amanda! I didn’t think the entry way was all that bad to begin with, but then I LOVED where you took the design! Board and batten always looks beautiful 🙂 I’m featuring your entry way at our Talented Tuesday party tomorrow! I hope you’ll stop by and say hi 🙂 Thanks for sharing your project!
Thank you so much Lindi! I just felt like it needed a little something something. 🙂

Thank you so much Stephanie 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Hey Amanda
Looks great!! Just wondering what colour white you used? Is it BM?

Thanks Ashley! You’ll probably laugh, but it’s actually just the plain old white trim paint by Behr. It’s a semi gloss finish 🙂
