Oh man, what a weekend! I would like to say that the busy weekend is my excuse for being almost a week late on my first One Room Challenge post. Although we had a lot going on over the last few days it’s not to blame fully. I have been on the fence on if I should participate in the One Room Challenge this season. It is something I have wanted to do for a while now but was never in a place to do so. I’ve been a little hesitant due to the fact that our entire house is a big project! Many of you know that we moved into a major fixer upper in January and have been hard at work ever since. In case you missed it, I shared our kitchen reveal last week. You can check that out here. That is the last room that we’ve “completed.” I have been working here and there on our master bedroom but never really planned to start a full makeover until now. What the heck! I’ve got less than a month . . . I’m up for it!
Here is how the room looked right before we moved in:
It’s a bit hard to tell from the photos but it’s a pretty large room. It has wonderful natural light and includes two closets, one being a walk-in. So I would say I don’t hate it. Or at least I don’t hate it anymore! So far we’ve scraped all the wall paper, painted the trim and doors and installed hardwood floors.
We went with a color called Moonshine by Benjamin Moore.
We also installed the hardwood floors before moving in and that’s it. The room has gone un-decorated and houses all our old furniture, the furniture from my childhood bedroom to be exact. We haven’t hung a single thing and that ugly ceiling fan is still hanging. We’ve basically made it livable and haven’t thought a second more about it.
Lets get down to the plan!
Remember when I told you we had a busy weekend? We finally broke down and upgraded our queen size mattress for a king. Woo-hoo! I also found the prettiest antique bedside table at one of my favorite antique stores. I totally lucked out on that one. I wasn’t expecting to find the perfect furniture pieces so quickly but when you find something you just love you have to jump on it! It’s the tiger oak table you see above. I’ll talk more about that later.
As for the headboard, I’m going to make one. I’m not going to make a traditional one exactly. I plan on framing out a headboard on the wall above the bed and then attaching swing arm lamps to the headboard. Josh built the perfect platform for our bed on Sunday so there’s no need for a headboard to attach to the bed.
I’ll be sharing more details and my progress over the next could of weeks. We’ll see how far I make it and if I’m able to complete the room by the deadline. I hope you’ll follow along and be encouraged to start a room makeover of your own. Wish me luck!
