It’s December! Our home always feels so magical in the month of December. The twinkling lights, garlands and sparkling glass ornaments make things extra special. Today, I wanted to share a Christmas home tour of the spaces that I have completely thus far. I hope that it will serve as inspiration as you decorate your own home this season. With a 1 year old running around, I haven’t had as much time this year to dedicate to the decorating process, so I kept things fairly simple. I didn’t go all out as I have in past years but I’m discovering that I actually prefer less. Take a peek around! I hope you love it as much as we do.
A few years ago I found this garland at a local antique store. I had always used real garland in the foyer in years past, but loved the look of this. Each year I simple change of the ribbon and I add different stems or ornaments to it. This time I’ve worked in some sparkling star garland and some faux pomegranates that I purchased years ago. Some double layered velvet ribbon is the icing on the cake.
Little Audrey had to sneak into a photo of two.
In our living room I usually use a larger, fuller tree, but this year I decided to use our smaller noble fir in a vintage style pot. I ordered this tree several years ago and opted to put lights on it myself. If you have the time to do so, it’s great. The tree always looks so much brighter when you’re able to install your own lights. To use a pot as a tree stand, we purchased a large block of dense green floral foam from Hobby Lobby and I filled the loose spaces around the sides with a few kitchen hand towels. It works like a charm!
The draping garland is also faux and was purchased from Hobby Lobby a couple of months ago. Sadly, they quickly sold out. At $23 I will definitely be purchasing more next year. Again, I added more star garland and velvet ribbon.
Some faux greenery stems hide the 3M hooks that hold our stockings and add some texture to the mantel.
I’m using the same linens from the fall season. I love pillows and throws that can do double duty. Nice covers are not cheap, so I want to get as much use out of them as possible.
This room is on the north facing side of our home and is always extra cozy with the warm glow of a Christmas tree. I usually love to take my photos of this room once I’ve had the chance to wrap a few gifts. Presents with pretty papers and ribbon always add to the magic, but this year we can’t seem to keep our little one from trying to open them. She’s very persistent. If you have any suggestions on that, please feel free to share! We’ve considered using a baby gate around the tree but haven’t as of yet.
I didn’t do a large tree in the dining room this year. Instead, I found that it was the perfect room for my tabletop tree. My DIY pinecone garland also found a home in this room and received some new ribbon!
This mini tree is covered in black & white family photos, antique German glass ornaments and German candle holders. I don’t light these candles, but I do love the way they look. This tree is one of my absolute favorite trees in our home.
Our den is extra cozy with the addition of a Christmas tree. When I mentioned not putting the tree up in this room, Josh and Charlie quickly protested. They were right. I’m glad we did it because now we get to enjoy those warm lights during family movie nights.
Again, I didn’t change the linens in this room. I simply added a plaid throw and two small mistletoe pillows that I purchased from Target two years ago. A Christmas candle and a little greenery is all this room needed to feel festive.
I hope to share the kitchen and kid’s trees very soon. With a baby running around it’s a little more difficult to get things “photo” ready. There always seems to be random things in random places. Those of you children and grand children know just want I mean. I hope you enjoyed the small peek into our home this Christmas and I hope to see you back here in a couple of days. Merry Christmas!
So beautiful! I have six children (ages 12-1). I haven’t had presents under the tree for years! Your home radiates warmth and joy. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much, Mary! With little ones running around, it’s quite difficult to keep them away from the tree and gifts. They’re so curious!
I often use pictures of your home for inspiration when decorating. Your home is absolutely beautiful, so warm and inviting. Thank you for sharing a peek at your beautiful Christmas decor.
That means so much to me, Patty! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
The picture of Little Audrey should be made into a Christmas card. Absolutely cuteness overload with that mischievous little smile.
Aw thank you! She’s my little shadow these days. Merry Christmas!
Simply elegant and cozy. Where did you source the small tree in the dining room. Also the pretty twisted taper candle?
Thanks Nanci! I meant to include a link for that little tree and must have missed it. Here’s a link for it – https://rstyle.me/+krHi4L_vXJwd43caqpPepw
I have the smaller size. The candle is from Hobby Lobby. They have a great and inexpensive selection. I’ve also seen very similar ones at Homegoods as well.
Your home is SO inspiring! SO warm and inviting. I’m always struck by how refined your décor is…a true testament that you can’t recreate the feel of your home by just going to a big box store. I’m struggling this year with decorating as I’ve moved my 80 yo Mom in with us so I can care for her. I’m running a little low on motivation for pulling out all the decorations. This post might just be the inspiration I need!
Thank you so much, Shelley! That means the world to me. I’ve always tried to make our home unique to us and to collect and layer over time. It’s truly makes a difference. It sounds like you’re in a transitional stage of life. Don’t beat yourself up. You’ll decorate as you feel led to. Some years are more simple and that’s completely okay! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
I was so excited to see your Christmas home tour! Your home exudes warmth and coziness! I am so inspired by your beautiful home! I just recently have been building a plate rack inspired by yours!
Thank you, Ruth! Honestly, I was a bit nervous to share this year. It isn’t my usual, full and extravagant Christmas.m, but it’s what we need right now and I know there are others in the same stage. It’s been nice to have a change and less stuff around. Have a Merry Christmas!
I look forward to your Christmas home tour every year! I shamelessly copied your tree in the blue and white pot a few years ago and put mine in the window seat in our kitchen. I think you have just the right amount of Christmas throughout your home. Some of these houses are just overloaded with Christmas so you can’t appreciate anything. Loved seeing baby Audrey she’s so cute!
This just made my day, Judy! Thank you! I was a bit worried everyone might be a little discounted with the tour this year. It’s smaller and not as much to photograph. It’s a crazy but sweet stage of life I’m in currently. Im so glad that little try could inspire you. It’s been one of my favorite decor pieces over the years. I love the idea of it in a window seat. I might have to do that in the future, once Audrey’s less destructive. Have a wonderful Christmas season!
Love your style! You actually helped me to say “this is enough, it’s Christmas, it’s beautiful, now STOP”! I’m 59, so a child of 80/90’s over the top decadence. Now I’m really enjoying the season and anticipating all four daughters being home this year! Thank you so much.
I’m so glad to hear that, Beth! I can struggle with that too. I love Christmas and all of its pretty decor. I’ve definitely done more in the past, but I’m finding that less is more. I’ve stressed a whole lot less this year with less decor. There’s less to clean around and less to worry about breaking. It’s been wonderful! Have a very Merry Christmas!
Growing up, the Christmas presents were never put out until the children went to bed on Christmas Eve. The thrill the next morning of seeing all those gifts piled everywhere and stockings filled was the most exciting thing ever! It made the holiday so much more magical that way and also solves the problem of kids getting into things early. Merry Christmas! Your home is always so inspiring to me.
I love this, Diane! How magical it must have been waking up Christmas morning. My kids will enjoy that and same feeling this year thanks to Audrey, ha! I’m excited to the change. Figuring out where to keep everything once it’s wrapped has been tricky. I should probably find some totes to put gifts in. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season!
For someone so young, your home looks so curated and lovely. My favorite is the den with its dark walls. So warm and cozy. A suggestion for the little one opening gifts…. get a little basket and wrap her small toys or little things in extra paper in boxes and just let her rip them apart.. Tell her this is her basket , but the ones under the tree are Mommies, so she can’t touch those. Just being able to rip the paper is what they want.. I actually have two grown grandsons now. They are 30 and 20… and when the older was about 12 , he said “grandma.. please don’t put my gifts in gift bags. I like the wrapped ones because I love the sound of tearing open the paper. ” SO its always wrapped presents for him still.
That means the world to me, Liane! Thank you so much! Yes, we did that very thing and she had a blast tearing into them. My husband wrapped three things for her and she had them open in no time. We thought it solved it, but she kept going back to the tree gifts. She’s been very persistent. Little ones keep you on your toes! I love that your grandchildren still love tearing the paper. My 12 year old son is the same way, and if I’m honest, I am too! Having paper and ribbons on the floor Christmas morning just adds to the magic of it all. Have the most wonderful Christmas!
You have such a pretty home and its decorated just perfect for Christmas! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Lynne! Have a very Merry Christmas!
Simply stunning….
Aw thanks, Kathi! Merry Christmas!
Your home and style are so beautiful. You have such a classy and curated style and your collections are my favorite. I always look so forward to receiving posts from you. Audrey is so precious! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
Thank you, Nancy! That means a lot. Audrey is quite a cutie if I do say so myself. Have a wonderful Christmas season!
It’s all so beautiful! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home – one of my favorites. : ) Plus you reminded me I need to put our some Christmas candles!
Thank you so much, Renee! I always love this time of year. Decorating is extra fun. Have a very merry Christmas!
Where did you find the stunning locomotive? I love it! Can you share?
Thanks Shelley! I found that years ago in a little thrift store. Sadly, there wasn’t any train cars with it, but I always keep my eye out when shopping at antique and thrift stores. I wish there was some kind of marking on it so I knew the maker.
Everything looks wonderful! Your toddler is darling! The Peanuts Nativity is the cutest. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thank you so much, Cindy! My mom bought the peanut nativity for me when my son was little. It’s his favorite things to pull out each year. I’m hoping Audrey likes it too. Merry Christmas!
So beautiful and ready for Christmas, Amanda!! I always enjoy seeing photos of your beautiful home, and your creativity….and especially during the holidays!! Merry Christmas!
