Well friends it’s that time of the year again. To some of you this will seem too soon but I am a firm believer in planning ahead. Thanksgiving is next week which means December is just over a week away. I want to make sure you have plenty of time to make your own advent calendar if you choose to. This was one of the easiest things I’ve done this fall to get ready for the Christmas season. It also was one of the cheapest! I purchased everything at Michael’s craft store and the Target dollar section and came in just under $10.
You can create your calendar a number of ways. Some people like to put a special gift or candy in each bag but I prefer putting a memorable activity that the whole family can do. Write something festive and fun on 25 cards. I used white card stock for this. You can watch one of your favorite Christmas movies, bake cookies, etc. If you haven’t done this before I will tell you, it can be a little difficult coming up with 25 different activities. You’ll have to get creative. We’re still coming up with ideas for our own calendar.
After you have all your cards filled out, put one in each bag and clip them to your ribbon. I secured the ribbon onto our ladder with push pins. I used an old ladder that I typically use for hanging extra blankets. It so happens the ladder works great for this use as well! I really love how simple it was to put together. It’s always great to find different uses for items we already have. My toddler is already excited to open the first bag. December we’re ready for you!
This is such a versatile advent calendar. You could string the ribbon and bags across a chalk board, mantel or bookshelf. The sky is really the limit. Have fun with it and sit back and enjoy the small things of the holiday season!
Happy Friday friends 🙂
