New year new look! We giving our living a fresh look and today I’m sharing our plans & our progress for our new but class styled living room.
Where has the New Year gone? This month is flying by and I feel like I’m just now getting my act together. For the last 8 months maybe I’ve wanted to switch up our living room a bit. It’s not that there was anything wrong with the way it was but instead me just craving a change. Sometimes you just need a fresh look to get you inspired for the new year ahead!
We recently moved our sectional into our family/TV room and brought the sofa from that room into the living room. It just made sense to have more seating in the room with the larger TV for movie nights. I get this room to myself most of the time so I liked the idea of having a smaller sofa and a couple of pretty armchairs. I had no idea that I would have such a hard time choosing what kind of chairs I want.

For now I’ve kept my check wing back chair by the window but I would like to move it by the TV armoire and put two matching chairs in front of the window with a table in between.
For our goals for the space this year we want to plank the ceiling, make a window seat cushion and switch up the wall decor just a bit.
Behind the sofa is a large open area that I plan on putting antique stretcher base table that I’ve had in my garage for way too long. I plan to add some slip-covered stools and or chairs. In my mind I picture it with a nice flower arrangement in the center with stacks of books and small decor pieces. Fingers crossed it turns out as planned!
Shortly after Christmas I added these pretty block print pillow covers and that started the whole process of actually going through with my refresh idea. It always seems to start with something small like that. You can find the pillow covers here.
We moved our antique pine chest upstairs to make room for this antique oak chest that I picked up last week at antique store that just opened up down the street from our house. I got a good deal on it and It’s in the best of conditions. The best part is that it has a hidden drawer. Josh was sold! Let’s face it, I just can’t say no to a pretty old dresser.
I plan on hanging several ironstone plates around the painting. I’ve collected quite a few and think that would be a nice way to make more of an impact on this wall.
It has the prettiest patina to it and drawers are in great shape. I love a good storage piece!
I’ve been enjoying the fresh look for the last week or so but I’m getting anxious to find the perfect chairs. I picture something light in color or possibly a nice ticking stripe. I’ve found several options on Wayfair and Birch Lane. I’ve also been keeping a keen eye on the Facebook yard sale page each day. I know the perfect chair will eventually find it’s way into our space.
Is there a space that you are giving a refresh to this year? If I’m honest I think I’ve got more than one. My goal this year is to stick to the good stuff. I always want this to be a site that you leave feeling inspired. I want each post to be helpful and encouraging. Hopefully the next time I share this space I’ll have a fresh new ceiling and two cozy armchairs. Stay tuned friends!
Love your style! The new dresser is beautiful and will look great with ironstone stone plates around it! I also am refreshing my living room and I find your blog very inspiring.
