Have you ever made a design decision on a whim? I would typically recommend it but I recently gave took the plunge and was wrist deep in paint and it might be one of my favorite things I’ve ever done! I don’t know if its the gray winter days or the post holiday crash but it’s had me a little antsy lately. I’ve been moving furniture and wall art around and now I’m painting rooms that were just fine to start with. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”… right? Last weekend I couldn’t leave well enough alone and decided that our laundry room needed a bold new look. That bold new look would have to be a classic dark green paint color!
I’ve been drawn to dark greens for some time now. I incorporated them into our Christmas decor last year in the family room and decided to carry those colors into my winter decor. Over the holidays I had been thinking of a place I could use a pop of dark green but I couldn’t think of any place that needed painting that the color would work. When last weekend it occurred to me, the laundry room! Sure, I had just painted it last April but a quart of paint is less than $20 and I had a $10 off coupon burning a hole in my pocket. That was enough convincing for me. My shoes were on and I was at Lowes within 10 minute!
Here’s a look back at the laundry room right after we purchased our house. Yikes!
After a makeover which was really a gut-job last April, here was the laundry/powder room. You can see that full before & after here.

Here we are today! Isn’t she so regal and refined?
This scrumptious color is called Backwoods by Benjamin Moore. It pairs perfectly with Dove White that is on the walls and works with the brass accents just perfectly. If you’re looking for a timeless green that will take you through the years I really believe this is your color. It is a Benjamin Moore color. I’ve always gravitated towards their color options. However, I usually use Valspar’s Reserve line of paint. Most home improvement stores keep a database of colors and can mix other name brand colors for you in their paint lines. I highly recommend this Wooster brush. I own several of them and have used them on every painted job since I discovered them last spring. I tend to get blisters when painting. With this brush I don’t get that because of the soft grip handle. It’s my favorite brush by far! Below I’ve shared a few other dark greens that I adore.
I cut back some of the things that were on the shelves in order to make things clean and simple. My stain cleaning chart and storage baskets stayed as well as this adorable topiary tree! There’s a link for her below.
There was nothing wrong with the space before but I think this is a room that was screaming for something unexpected. I love the drama the pop of color gives the space. It creates a moody feel that gives it a cozy feel. It also fits our classic colonial home like a glove! I’m so happy I decided to take the risk. Who would have thought it would only take a $10 coupon, ha! What colors are you drawn to lately? Do you have any painting projects planned for this year? I love hearing what you’re all up too. I know I can’t be the only one completely projects on a whim. I hope you’ll go for it. Here’s to a more bold new year, friends!

Thank you, Carole! I was a bit nervous when I put the first coat on but it turned out better than I would have ever thought!
Lovely color and the room looks gorgeous. Great update.
Thank you so much, Lilly! It’s a big change for that space but I can’t imagine it any other color now. 🙂
That is a beautiful shade of green!
LOVE green!! Gorgeous color choice and it really compliments your floor! Beautifully done!
What a color did you paint the dress? It looks great. We have the same dresser with it’s original wood but it needs a fresh look! Thanks!
I absolutely love this green, thank you for sharing! Can I ask what finish you went for? Gloss/Matte? Thank you!
Where did you get that brick for the floor? What’s it called? Love the color combo-
