I’m so happy to share our coffee table makeover with you all. This coffee table has been around as long as I can remember. It was in my house as a little kid. There’s nothing particularly special about the table other than the awesome storage that it offers. My mom hadn’t used it for years so of course I said I would take it. The first thing on my list, makeover!
The stain on the coffee table wasn’t all that bad in my opinion but it was a little outdated and the top was in rough condition. It needed a good sanding and resealing. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to re-stain the table or paint it. I was so excited when I came across a company called Chalkworthy. When I saw all their pretty color options I knew I wanted to paint it!
I ordered my kit and it arrived just like this. How cute is the packaging? The kit comes with everything you need to refinish a piece. Sand paper, paint, brushes, wax, it’s all in the box! I chose a color called cottage. It’s a bluish, green and a great pop of color in our family room.
I did water down the paint slightly. It’s super thick and a little goes a long way.
I did sand the table lightly with the sand paper provided. Here is the table after the first coat. Don’t worry about getting it perfect. The second coat covers all.
Once the first coat dried, about an hour or so, I applied the second coat. I let the second coat dry overnight. I did decide to take some sand paper to the edges of the table to distress it a bit. The coffee table already has its dents and scratches from years of use so distressing the edges worked along with that and doesn’t make it look as thought I’m trying to hid all of it. I like the character it adds to the room. I then applied the wax which went on great. I haven’t always loved furniture wax in the past. This is one I actually really like. I found it wasn’t as oily as some I’ve used before. After a day or two the table was finished and J and I moved it into the family room.
With the neutral wall color, sectional and rug it’s nice to have a pop of color! I couldn’t be happier with the quality of the paint. I really can’t wait to pick out another color to use. There’s a lot of chalk paint brands out there. What I love about Chalkworthy is that they ship everything you need to refinish a piece of furniture in one box, as a set. It’s such easy and affordable option. You can check them out on Facebook and Instagram to see some other beautiful furniture flips that people have done, very inspiring.
I hope you all have a great week. We had a busy but fun Easter day with family. The weekend flew by. I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to some rest this week. Sometimes when life stays so busy it’s hard to know when to slow down and take a break. Renovations are coming right along. The kitchen is almost finished and I’m dying to share it with you. Stay tuned!

I LOVE it! you did such a great job and I love the color in the room. I’ve never painted a piece of furniture, but your post and review make me want to take on the task. I have a piece or two I want to do and this was what it took to get me going. Thanks for telling us about their fb and IG sites, too.

Thank you so much Susan and you’re so welcome! I really love their paint. It’s really easy to use even if you’ve never painted a furniture piece. I think it would be perfect for ya 🙂
What a difference a coat of paint can make! I love that shade of blue, gorgeous!
I know, right! Thank you so much Roxanne 🙂
I want to order from them just to get the cute little box! I love when companies invest in presentation and packaging. And it looks like the product is really awesome, too. The table looks beautiful!
I couldn’t agree more! It’s like the icing on top of the cake. There’s something about opening up a package and have it wrapped so adorably that makes it more fun to receive. Chalkworthy is by far the whole package Bessie. 🙂
