If you’re coming over from Little Glass Jars, I’m so glad you’re here! Didn’t you just love Ashley’s adorable tray? I can’t believe we’re into summer already. The days have really been heating up here in the south. So much of me is already longing for fall but summer has so many fun things to enjoy. One thing that I really love about summer is the easy, laid back style that our home has during those hot months. We don’t have a coastal theme in our home but I’ve always loved sea life shadow boxes. When I saw some last time I was strolling Pottery Barn I knew I really wanted a couple for our home this summer. I also knew I could make them for way less! Here’s my how-to for our DIY sea life shadow boxes.
DIY Sea Life Shadow Boxes
Here’s what I used-
- An unfinished, wooden shadow box from the craft store. You can make your own but I found these to be cheaper (only $3.99) than making them.
- Fabric- I used some linen type fabric I already had on hand.
- Sand dollars, Shells, starfish, etc. I found these at Hobby Lobby.
- Fabric adhesive
- Hot glue gun

I decided to give my boxes a coat of white paint and I cut cardboard pieces to put my sand dollars and star fish on in case I decided to ever switch out what was in the boxes with something else down the road. I used spray fabric adhesive to attach the fabric to the cardboard.
Use a hot glue gun to glue the edges of the fabric down now the back of the cardboard.
Once the paint is dry on the boxes, put the cardboard piece in the back of the box. You can then hot glue your sea life items into place.
I love how they turned out. That little starfish is just too cute! I still can’t believe I spent less than $12 for both.
I decided to add them to our hutch in our dining room for now. They would really be cute just about anywhere though.
I’m thrilled to be joining up with several inspiring ladies to bring you some fun summer decor ideas. Next up is Lucy from Craftberry Bush. I can’t wait for you to see her adorable summer tea towel! It’s so inspiring, so hop over and say hello!
I hope you all have a wonderful week friends!
