I can not tell you how refreshing it is to be able to bring this post to you all today. In our world lately it’s been sanding, paint, tiling and sanding some more. I haven’t really had the time for some of the fun projects that I’ve wanted to complete. This weekend, I took the time. I’ve been feeling as though I’m running on fumes the last couple weeks. Sometimes all you need is a laid back kind of day with some crafts! Yes, that’s what I consider a laid back kind of day. Throw in You’ve Got Mail and chocolate into the mix and I in paradise.
One of the first crafts that I’ve done since I’ve been in our new house was this book makeover. I’m a sucker for old books. J and I have a little too many. We have them sitting everywhere. Just call me the crazy, old book lady! I don’t think I can leave a Goodwill without one. I recently picked these three books up, not for reading purposes but solely on their shape and size. They’re in great condition and their pages are just starting to age. The colors however, left something to be desired. No fear, there’s always chalk paint!
I chose Primitive by Americana Decor chalk paints. Two coats covered the book covers perfectly. Don’t forget the edges 😉
Once the paint completely dried I dry brushed a thin coat of antiquing wax onto the covers. Once you’ve brushed one side, use a rag or paper towel to whip it off. The longer you leave it on, the darker your finish will be.
Let the wax dry to the manufacture’s recommendation and add a simple ribbon, you’re now ready to display those beauties!
They fit great with my spring tablescape this year. I’ve already scouted out a few more places that they would work in our house once spring is over. They’re just too pretty not to keep out year round.
Make sure to check in on Thursday when I share my spring home tour as part of the Hello Spring Tour with some amazing other bloggers. If all the lovely spring inspiration isn’t enough to entice you, we’re giving away $400 to one awesome follower!
Happy Tuesday friends!
