This sweet Easter basket centerpiece that can be used two different ways. This basket full of baby chicks or tulips is just too cute!
Winter is almost in our rear view mirror and we’re headed into spring! I personally have always liked winter. It forces me to slow down and rest but by this time each year I find myself anxiously awaiting spring. Like clock work I’m dreaming of spring. I’ve been really looking forward to all the spring projects and posts. This blog hop, hosted by my friends Janine from Happy Happy Nester and Ashley from Modern-Glam is all about spring tablescapes and centerpieces.
I recently found this sweet basket at the outlet and I knew right away that I wanted to incorporate it into my spring decor. After styling the basket two different ways and unable to decide which idea to share with you today, I decided to share them both!

Easter Basket Centerpiece #1 – Baby Chicks
The first centerpiece uses cute little baby chicks that I found at Hobby Lobby for less than $2 a piece, faux grass (also from Hobby Lobby) and some faux flowers. Ideally I would have used fresh wheat grass but of course forgot to start it ahead of time, so faux it is.
You can purchase sheets of faux grass from most craft stores. Using sharp scissors, cute the corners to allow your grass to fit nicely in your basket. You can use whatever basket you prefer. There’s so many cute ones to choose from!
To get the grass to sit towards the top of the basket I used a plastic Rubbermaid container that I had on hand. The grass rested perfectly on top.
Next I added the ceramic baby chicks. I also decided to cut a few faux flowers to about 4 inches in length and placed them without the grass for an added touch of color. Real flowers for your yard would be so pretty as well.
Lastly, I cute some satin ribbon and tied a bow onto the handle.
I’m not one for typically Easter decor but I can get behind this sweet basket. It’s the perfect touch of spring without being cheesy or over done. Before Easter I hope to grow some wheat grass in a round cake pan and use it. There’s just something so nice about the real thing!
Easter Basket Centerpiece #2 – Tulips
Just like the basket full of baby chicks, this one uses the sheet of faux grass but adds in some faux tulips as well. You can find my favorite faux tulips here! If you’re using real tulips like I did in last years tulip centerpiece, take the lid off of your plastic container below and full with water. Put the stems of the tulips through the grass into the water or in my case into the dry container.
It’s really that easy! You can add as many flowers as you feel and in multi colors if you choose. It took only minutes to through together.
I love the fresh look of these on our breakfast nook. I also think it would look beautiful on a long dining room table, using three smaller baskets instead. This is such a versatile centerpiece. There’s lots of room to make it your own.
While I was taking photos for the centerpieces little Miss Ruby decided to make an appearance and to try to run off with one of my baby chicks when I wasn’t looking. She’s a sneaky thing who also really needs a hair cut, ha! She just looked too cute that I had to share a photo.
Whether you use this Easter basket idea as a centerpiece or just a cute decor piece, it’s bound to make your space a little brighter and a little happier. Here’s to a beautiful spring friends!
