This DIY hanging flower vase is the perfect touch to any summer home. It’s super cheap to make and whips up in minutes!
I’m a sucker for simple and timeless decor. I’m not a big fan of clutter so I’ve found I much prefer the simple touches. Years ago I came across a photo in a Martha Stewart Magazine that had the cutest little hanging vases. A few years ago hanging bottles with flowers in them were all the rage at weddings, parties and showers. It made me think of that old magazine I had seen years before. This weekend I popped my head into a thrift store on the fly and was instantly inspired when I spotted the cutest little vase. It was .55 cents and I knew exactly what I was going to do with it! I came home and broke out my ribbon box and got to work.
Here’s what you need:
1″ wide silk ribbon in you color choice
Vase of choice (You can get creative. Just make sure your ribbon has something to hold on with whatever vase you choose.)
Pretty flowers of choice
I cut my ribbon about 4 ft. in length. You could probably get away with less. I tend to over do it because I’m always worried I’ll come up short.
Take the ribbon and wrap it around the neck of the vase and cross the two ends.
Take the ribbon and wrap around a second time and tight a know to ensure it has a tight hold on the vase.
I cut the end of the ribbon off on one strand, looped it under the ribbon and tied it on the other side of the vase, directly across from the other knot.
Add a little water and your favorite cut flowers.
Take both pieces of ribbon and tie into a pretty bow at the top. Hang it on a door, wall hook or railing.
I found the perfect place for mine in our foyer on our coat closet door. We haven’t been using that closet much these summer months, so it’s worked beautifully there. I used several stems of white stock flowers that I picked up on my weekly grocery run at Trader Joe’s. They’re the first flowers I’ve purchased in weeks. Our little flower garden has been producing so many hydrangeas that I haven’t needed to purchase any flowers. That’s a problem I’m loving to have!
Doesn’t it look so sweet? My mind is already planning the next arrangement and where I’m going to hang it. It’s a great way to place flowers in a spot that you traditionally wouldn’t be able too.
I hope you’re having a lovely week so far. Did you see my IG story from Sunday? I found an amazing score at the Ballard Design outlet that I can not wait to share with you here. I’m working on a post that’s going to talk about one of my secret weapons that I use when decorating my home. It’s a post that has been on my mind for some time and after this weekend I knew I had to write it. Stay tuned, friends!
What a clever idea
Aww thank you! It’s simple but so fun.
Off to find a suitable vase as this is such a beautiful idea.
Good luck on your hunt! I found this one at Goodwill. They’re hit or miss some times.
