Fall is just a couple of days away and I’m in full autumn mode! For the past two weeks I’ve slowly been adding fall touches to our home and although I’m not quite done I thought I’d share our family room and kitchen with you for the Seasonal Simplicity tour today hosted by Krista from The Happy Housie. If you’ve come here from Doreen Corrigan’s, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here for our subtle fall home tour.
In the past year or so I really started to grow tired of the rat race that blogging can be sometimes and I decided to slow down and just enjoy each season for what it is and to be present. It’s been so nice because it’s allowed me to take things as they come naturally in nature and I haven’t felt the pressure to do this or that in my decorating. I’m also secretly a huge procrastinator, ha! I’m the one who’s shopping the craft store two weeks too late and it’s all picked over. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
With all of that said, as much as I would love to have a front porch full of pumpkins to share today, I don’t. Pumpkins just became available here this week and sadly they would roast outside considering it just dropped into the upper 80’s yesterday. Sadly, the fall porch will have to wait but for now I’ve got several natural gourds and greenery to welcome in the autumn season!
We’ve kept out foyer simple by adding just a couple of gourds and greenery. Over the years I’ve collected quite a few preserved gourds. I love the natural colors and textures of them and being able to reuse them year after year has been great! My vintage style fall wreath mirror is a new addition this year. You can find the tutorial for that here.
Our family room has been glowing the last few days. I don’t know if it’s because the trees outside have just a touch of yellow to them or if it’s from all of the warm pumpkins and gourds in the space. Either way I’m loving the warmth! Again simple is the key here. I wanted the mantel to be the focal point. You can see the step by step to our layered mantel here.
I brought in pops of color with plaid and rich brown throw pillows. I wanted to keep the room warm and cozy but without being too fussy.
This is my favorite little nook in the back of our family room. It gets the best natural lighting and it’s become the coziest reading spot. I incorporated some faux mixed with real greenery for a little fall color.
Our breakfast nook has some of the same faux foliage stems as our family room to keeps things flowing. Fall and Christmas are really the only times that I bring in touches of red. I love the color these berry stems add to the room!
Some simple boo pumpkins, wheat and greenery give the room a festive feel without going over the top.
Naturally we’re covered up with apples this time of the year. We make an annual picking trip up north a little ways and from here to Christmas I’ll be pumping out the apple goodies. This week we’ve been indulging in these apple cider cinnamon rolls. They’re a family favorite and I’ll be sharing the recipe next week, be sure to check back in because it’s a must make for the season.
I’m so glad you stopped by and I wish you the most wonderful fall season friends! Make sure to hop on over to Bre’s home at Rooms For Rent. Her tour is bound to inspire. I love your reading nook and how you decorated it. It says Fall but doesn’t scream it which is what I like right now while it is still warm outside. I love those brass lamps too. Do you think they are still available?
what a warm and inviting home you have created! i just love it all!
Oh this is so cute! I love all the warm colors.
I love all the natural elements you brought indoors. The red berries are a beautiful pop of colour that should take you well into the holiday season!
I love your style and I think your family room is the coziest space I’ve ever seen!
I love how warm and classic your home is. Very cozy indeed!
Your home is so warm, cozy and very welcoming! I have been searching for wingback chairs with low arms for my dining room table. Would you be willing to share where you got yours? Thank you!
I just adore your style – you have a gorgeous home and it’s so perfect.
Aw, thank you so much Michele. I’m so glad you stopped by!
I am daydreaming of fall and love the subtle touches. I am becoming not a girl for “super theme-y” decorating, and I love the natural things you chose that are subtle and simple. Over the years I have been letting go of the cheesy elements of seasonal decor. I realized I was taking part in theme-y decorating when I do not even care for it, all to go “festive” when I like the subtle things and more natural things more and also to show it by colors more than “shouting” it with busy items that get cluttered looking so easily in my house. It is July right now and I have subtle things that say summer and have items to donate that I am not attached to. Sometimes I like the newness of the seasonal thing, and find it cute, then after a season or two I find myself tired of it. Things that are more classic I am finding I like better and a more subtle flow between seasons. I love the tasteful look you did!
